Operation Theater Technician

An OT-Anaesthesia Technician prepares and maintains an operating theatre and its equipment, assists the surgical team during operations and provides support to patients in the recovery room. He/she also assists with the administration and monitoring of anaesthesia and has an extensive knowledge of anaesthesia techniques, instruments, supplies, and technology.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating room for surgery, connect and check needed devices
  • Provide technical assistance to surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists in the operating room
  • Clean and disinfect operating room area, equipment/instruments and anaesthesia equipment after each procedure/surgery
  • Assist staff in handling and discharging patient as needed
  • Take care of any specimens obtained for testing following laboratory procedures/protocol
  • Follow recommended protocol of sterilization, supply procurement, reporting
  • S/he maintains anaesthesia/OT equipment/instruments and supplies
  • Keeps records of equipment inspections
